Grekofski Nathalie

I am a Belgian architect and artist; I came to Hungary 35 years ago. I have worked as an architect since 1989, and since then I have also been engaged in spiritual science.

While designing my diploma project I met Jacques Gillet, an internationally recognised Belgian organic architect who taught in northern Belgium. Jacques Gillet supported my diploma project — a spiritual centre designed beside a lake district. In 1989–1990 I worked actively on the design and construction of Gillet's organic house being built in the Belgian village of Ouffet. I worked for a year in various architectural offices in Brussels, but I did not find what I was looking for in architecture. In the end, encouraged by Gillet, I came to Hungary.

From 1990 — with short interruptions — I worked alongside Imre Makovecz for fifteen years, until the Master's death in 2011.

In 1996 I founded my own architectural office, ARCHEVIL Kft. Besides designing family houses, I designed the complete reconstruction of the 3,500 m² listed building of the Belgian Embassy in Budapest and the extension of the consulate, the office building of the Belgian military attaché, the Hospice House in Majosháza, the 1,500 m² indoor training pitch in Felcsút, a Waldorf school with four classrooms and a eurythmy hall, the Waldorf School of Budajenő, the façade identity of a student hostel in Budapest, a school in Komárno, and a guesthouse in Aiud (Nagyenyed), Transylvania.

I have entered several competitions: the sports facilities and masterplan of Budapest's 15th District (15,000 m²), the Ludovika sports centre (10,000 m²), the Hungarian pavilion of the Milan international expo, and the 60,000 m² national library of Japan.

As a colleague of Imre Makovecz I worked on many buildings: several family houses, the Hungarian pavilion in Seville, the competition swimming pool in Eger, a chapel in Szárföld, the buildings of the 1996 Budapest World Expo, the Stephaneum building of Pázmány Péter Catholic University, the church designs for Vargyas, the site plan of the Puskás Academy in Felcsút and the 1,200 m² dormitory extension, and the complete renovation of the House of Culture in Jászkisér, a listed building since 2024.

I give lectures, courses and workshops in Hungary and abroad, in French and Hungarian, on living architecture and its possible future, and on the work and spirit of Imre Makovecz.

In my painting and architecture courses I strive, through artistic activities and living thinking, to pass on my professional and life experience to the participants — and at the same time to make its pure source perceptible to others.
