Painting

Unfolding the inner world of colours through free brushstrokes!

Compared with the search in architecture, painting is a different kind of search — through the world of colours: an inquiry into what colour actually is, what it wants to suggest to me, to tell me, to teach me. Through the world of colours one can experience what comes into being when we do not strive for depiction. Depiction may come later, but it is not the most important thing.

It is a very good experience to live through a creative process with one colour, or just a few. For this one must slow down, observe oneself from within and let the colour itself unfold on the surface for as long as the colour "wishes". This requires patience, attention, courage and trust. Then the colour itself shows me what it wants to become in that creative process. Colour, too, is a creative element — I am not the only creator. A colour may want something that is waiting to be discovered by me so that it can unfold more fully. It is a very exciting, lively process, and the encounter and shared creation leave their trace on the canvas. A different quality can come into being this way. Something is born on the canvas that I could not have created alone; together with the colour, I am able to open up, enliven and create other horizons.

It is the same process as the design process in architecture. It is not obvious, but they are very similar.
